Green light for punishing maritime polluters

Brussels, 13/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the European Parliament agreed to the draft directive to impose prison sentences for serious maritime pollution. It also amended some provisions to make them stricter. Parliament gave its green light to the European Commission framework directive on maritime pollution. This text completes the directive proposal and outlines the degree of sanctions (EUROPE 3 May p 10). EUROPE will return to this subject.
