Brussels, 08/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The second Congress of European Chemical Regions will be held on 5 and 6 February in Halle/Saale in Germany, it has been announced by the Liaison Office of Saxony-Anhalt in Brussels. European Environment Commissioner Margot Wallström will have the opportunity, a press release states, to discuss with regional politicians, experts and business leaders from more than 20 European Chemical Regions questions such as how can a clean environment, a high rate of innovation and strong competitiveness be combined in an enlarged European Union? The future European legislation on chemical products will also be one of the main subjects for discussion.
The press release specifies that another theme will be the official launch of the European Chemical Regions Network and that the programme of the conference also provides for a visit of chemical installations in the region, sites that have undergone massive transformation over the past decade going from a state run economy (the former GDR) to an open market economy. Today, these sites are the basis for a sustainable and competitive chemical industry, the press release states.
