Brussels, 08/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Daniel Cohn-Bendit and Monica Frassoni, co-presidents of the Green/EFA group at the European Parliament have called on president Cox that the Parliament express it solidarity with the five Israeli refuseniks convicted on 4 January to a year's detention in a military prison "in addition to the fourteen months they have already spent in prison".
In a letter to Pat Cox, Ms Frassoni and Mr Cohn-Bendit point out that the Parliament "has already expressed on several occasions its support for the 'refuseniks' as people working for peace". they expressed their sadness at this conviction of the five Israelis "who refused to enlist while their army illegally occupies Palestinian territories", and calls on president Cox to express Parliament's solidarity with all other people brought to trial.
