Brussels, 17/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission decided to appoint Robert Madelin to the post of Director General for Health and Consumer Protection. Mr Madelin has been a director in the European Commission since 1997. He is currently responsible for a range of international economic topics within DG Trade, including biotechnology, standards, intellectual property, sustainable development, governance, and bilateral trade relations with Asia. The Commission also decided to make the Italian Marco Benedetti the new Director General for Interpretation. He is currently the acting Director General to this DG.
