Brussels, 17/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers of the EU adopted without debate a regulation to reduce from 10 to 5% the compulsory set-aside rate for the 2004-2005 season. The previous day in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted the report by Joseph Daul (EPP-ED, France), which welcomes the Commission's proposal allowing a slight increase in cereal production next year, after this summer's heatwave which caused much loss to the industry. The EP agreed to an emergency vote on this dossier, so that the regulation can be applied as of June 2004.
