Parliament refuses to lift immunity for Marchiani

09/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the report by German Christian Democrat Klaus- Heiner Lehne on Thursday in Brussels, the European Parliament rejected two demands for the lifting of immunity for French Rassemblement pour la France, MEP, Jean-Charles Marchiani. In both cases, the demands aim to complete the enquiries into a temporary detention requested by the same judge. The first case involves arms trafficking and the second, public procurement and the Paris airports. The two reports indicate that the magistrate is currently being investigated and that in one case the parliamentary committee responsible concluded in 2002 that there had been an attempt to damage the political activity of an MEP.
