Progress on implementing European arrest warrant but danger of delays by some Member States

Brussels, 05/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - Six Member States will be ready to implement the European arrest warrant on 1 January 2004 as planned, indicated European sources. The JHA Council is due to examine the issue on Thursday. In mid-September, only Spain, Portugal, and Denmark were in compliance. Now Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and Luxembourg have caught up, indicated the same source. There is, however, a certain risk that Italy and the Netherlands will be late.
