Brussels, 16/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - Leaders from European and American farmers organisations will hold their 31st annual conference from 19 - 23 October in Jerez (Spain): the theme is "Agriculture after the WTO Ministerial in Cancun". President of COPA, Peter Gaemelke will kick off the event in which participants will include the Spanish Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Miguel Arias Canete, President of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) Jack Wilkinson, the President of the American Farm Bureau Bob Stallman, the President of the Canadian Federation Robert Friesen, and their Mexican counterpart, President of the Consejo Nacional Agropecuario Armando Paredes Arroyo. On the discussions agenda figure new developments in agricultural policies (safety nets, de-coupling, insurance programmes) and their impact on the world markets, coexistence of different approaches (special and differentiated treatment of developing countries, multi-functionality and non trade issues), the impact of bilateral agreements and free trade on agricultural trade and market access and quality production etc.
