Rome conference on Commission's next communication of corporate taxes

Brussels, 16/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - A high level conference on EU Corporate Tax Reform Progress and New Challenges" that it will host together with the Italian Presidency of the EU and the European Commission on 5 and 6 December in Rome. Members of the public may register before 31st October.

Debates will focus on the content of a Commission communication expected in November on corporate taxation. Based on the results of the consultation begun in October 2001, the Commission is expected to suggest the setting up of a single tax basis for large pan-European companies based on International IAS standards, as well as a consolidated tax base for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It will also consider the possibility of introducing pilot schemes to test the application of some form of EU-wide consolidated tax base throughout the European Union.

The conference will in particular consider the increasingly important role of European Court of Justice rulings in the corporate tax field.
