16/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - As pointed out earlier, Romano Prodi took part, on Monday in Alexandria, at a meeting of the High Level Advisory Group on Dialogue between Peoples and Cultures, at the recently rebuilt Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The High Level Group, jointly chaired by Assia Alaoui Bensalah and Jean Daniel, presented proposals on how to encourage this dialogue, mainly through education, mobility and the media. The Group will then finalise its report aimed at identifying the first activities and initiatives to be entrusted to the future Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Intercultural Dialogue (see also yesterday's EUROPE, p.17). In his speech, President Prodi mainly affirmed that the European peoples "do not believe in any clash of civilisations" and that "European public opinion is united in its rejection of that myth".
