Report on petitions gives low-down for 2002-2003: increased demand, recurrent subjects and ineffective cooperation of Council

Strasbourg, 01/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has adopted the report of Laura González Alvarez (Izquierda Unida) on the decisions of the petitions committee during 2002-03. The number of petitions continues to increase. Parliament received 1514 petitions as opposed to 1283 the previous year and 114 petitions from non-Community citizens residing in third countries. 642 petitions were declared admissible and 202 were rejected (as opposed to 744 and 293 respectively last...
