Walter Schwimmer stresses importance of linguistic diversity, "one of the strong points of Europe"

Brussels, 26/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 26 September, the European Languages Day, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer, restated the message that "language learning is a real medium for tolerance and mutual understanding between peoples". He went on to add: "linguistic diversity is already a reality, and it is one of the strong points of Europe. It is one of the elements of our cultural heritage and of our identity".
