18/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - In an opinion on genetic tests related to employment, the European Group on Ethics, which is chaired by Göran Hermeren, stressed that there is no proof that genetic testing in the context of employment are useful or reliable. The group therefore believes that employers should not use these tests. The use of such tests in exceptional circumstances could only be authorised by law following consultation with Unions and a committee of independent experts. A job applicant or employee should always be fully informed, and give their consent to the test, the results of which would remain confidential.
