Euro zone doubles trade surplus in July

Brussels, 18/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - According to estimates published by Eurostat on Thursday euro-zone trade with the rest of the world in July 2003 was a 12.2 billion euro surplus, compared with +13.3 bn in July 2002. The June 20032 balance was +6.7 bn, compared to 6.7 bn In June. year on figures say a trade surplus in the Euro zone saw the surplus fall given that in July 2002 it reached 13.3 bn euros. In July exports grew by 0.5% compared to previous month while imports fell by 1.5%. EU15 trade was a 5.6 bn euro surplus, against +5.0 bn in July 2002. In June 20032, the balance was -1.6 bn, compared with +2.4 bn in June 2002. In July 2003, exports, seasonally adjusted, rose by 3.8% compared to June 2003, while imports fell by 1.3%. Concerning the total trade of Member States, the largest surplus was observed in Germany (+59.1 bn euro), followed by Ireland (+16.5 bn). The United Kingdom registered the largest deficit (-36.1 bn), followed by Spain.
