Brussels, 18/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The round of referendums will come to a close in nine of the ten accession countries (with the exception of Cyprus) on Saturday 20 September with Latvia where, according to recent polls, there will be a small majority in favour (55%) for the country's entry into the EU on 1 May (22.8% of those interviewed said they were opposed, while not less than 22% are still undecided). The Latvian authorities are not hiding their hope to see the result in Estonia last week that in favour of accession, having a positive impact on voting on Saturday. The eight previous referendums have all said "yes" quite strongly: Malta, 53%, Slovenia 89.6%, Hungary 83.8%, Lithuania 91.1%, Slovakia 92.5%, Poland 77.45%, Czech Republic 91.1% and Estonia 66.9%.
