Fifteen struggle to agree on shortlist of protected geographical descriptions

Brussels, 28/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The trade experts of the Member States of the EU (133 Committee) failed on Friday to reach agreement on a shortlist of 35 geographical descriptions on alcohol and spirits (18 names) and other food products (17 names, mostly hams and cheeses) in the prospect of agricultural negotiations (the "market access" plank) at the WTO. The 133 Committee will meet again on 18 August to try to agree on this list prior to the Cancun meeting.
