EP wants to step up salmonella and other disease monitoring in the interests of public health

Brussels, 25/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - During the vote in second reading last Thursday on two pieces of legislation to step up surveillance of salmonella and other disease agents in the food chain to combat animal epidemics that can be passed on to man, and based on the report by Swedish Liberal Marit Paulsen, the European Parliament called on the plenary to ensure rigorous public health protection. The plenary followed the rapporteur's recommendations.
