Brussels, 25/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement Commissioner Günter Verheugen has recommended that the governments of acceding countries should not make participation in the euro zone a priority until the financial consequences of EU membership are fully under control. He said it does not make sense to want to comply with Maastricht criteria before even knowing how the additional financial costs resulting from membership to the European Union will be managed.
