Parliament rejects limited catch regime in Mediterranean - Commission's ideas on discards welcomed

Brussels, 23/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption, last Thursday in Brussels, of the report by Giorgio Lisi (Forza Italia) on the fishing action plan in the Mediterranean (presented last October as part of the common fisheries policy reform: see EUROPE of 10 October 2002), the European Parliament "finds the proposal to extend the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) regime, of which the Commission is aware of the limitations for the Mediterranean, contradictory and counter-productive".
