Brussels, 27/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Union and Canada will hold their annual Summit in Athens this Wednesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, and, from the European side, President of the European Council, the Greek Kostas Simitis, the President of the Commission, Romano Prodi, plus Chris Patten and Pascal Lamy. The session's agenda will be dominated by discussions to prepare for a possible reinforcement of relations in the area of trade, and politics (foreign policy, internal affairs, etc), in the light of European (see EUROPE of 15 May, p. 10) and Canadian contributions. The issue of the GMO dispute will also be raised, as Canada, which is also a producer, has decided to get behind the United States in its attempt to have measures restricting access to the Community market lifted.
