14/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - French Socialists elected to the European Parliament drew attention to the situation of the Kurds seeking asylum in France in the context of the Iraq war. A press release states they believe it would be unacceptable for the Kurds to be sent back to Turkey when they are victims of discrimination and treatment contrary to respect of fundamental rights. It considers the French population, which expressed a majority view in refusing the war, will support the request to give them refugee status. European PS members invite France to bring all its influence to bear, especially at the European Convention, in favour of a true European asylum policy.
