THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/convention/young entrepreneurs

14/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - Young entrepreneurs from four founding countries of the European Community - France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands (Belgium and Luxembourg do not have any young entrepreneurs associations) - adopted, on 12 April, their 'Milan Declaration' in which they denounce the attempts by enemies of the European Union to weaken the joint institutions and to reduce Europe to a mere free trade area. Thomas Chaudron, Ugo Andrea Poletti, Jan Klingele and Tjark de Lange call on the European Convention to prepare a draft constitution enabling the EU to be more effective, more understanding and closer to the citizens. They call on the Member States to focus, without allowing narrow national interests prevail, on the common European interest. They also insist on the promotion of the spirit of free enterprise and on a better coordination of economic and social policies.
