Brussels, 14/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised American giant General Electric (GE) to take over the Austrian group Jenbacher AG. Jenbacher develops, manufactures and markets reciprocating engines, large engines which burn liquid fuels or gas, and which are normally used for mechanical applications and electrical power production. EG is not active in this business, although it produces and markets turbines of various other types and sizes. The study carried out by the Commission showed that Jenbacher's reciprocating engines and the engines produced by GE are different products, due to their technical properties, cost and efficiency. The Commission believes, therefore, that there is no overlap between the activities of GE and Jenbacher, and thus there is no problem incorporating Jenbacher into the American group.
