No European institutions at the Summit of Four

Brussels, 14/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - The "External Relations" Council stated that the initiative by Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg to hold a Summit on European defence on 29 April is a "four-way initiative", and that there would be no European institutions involved, according to Council President Tassos Giannitsis, speaking on Monday. He ended speculation about the Presidency's attendance of this mini-Summit, which several delegations spoke out against during the Council. The results of this Summit could provide a contribution to the Convention, and, if "these countries wish it", a subject for debate at the "Gymnich" informal council, he said.
