Italy, Spain, United Kingdom warned over conclusion of bilateral contracts with USA on US customs inspecting containers in European ports

Brussels, 04/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission decided to send warning letters to Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom for having concluded bilateral agreements with Washington in the context of the "Container Security Initiative", indicated a Commission spokesman. These agreements allow US inspectors, accompanied by national inspectors to check containers leaving European ports for the US, in order to prevent attacks. The Commission considers that these...
