Brussels, 21/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 19 March, the European Commission approved rescue aid in favour of BBP SERvice GmbH, Oberhausen, a German company in the services sector active in the field of energy production and subsidiary of Babcok Borsig AG. The aid notified, a State guarantee of 90% for two credit lines of a total of EUR 52.5 million, will allow BBP Service to continue its operations for six months giving the company time to decide on its future. The Commission reached the conclusion that the guarantee for the credit lines at stake fulfil the conditions set out in the Community guidelines for rescue and restructuring aid to companies in difficulty - first of all because it is justified by serious social difficulties; secondly because the guarantees cover a credit line itself given at market interest rates; and thirdly because the credit line guaranteed by the State is restricted to the minimum necessary to keep the company afloat for six months. Finally, no unduly adverse spill-over effect on other Member States is foreseen.
