Brussels, 21/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - At the European Liberals (ELDR) summit prior to the Spring European Council (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.7), the President of the European Parliament's Liberal Group, Graham Watson, officially launched the "Yes to Europe" campaign, pushing for "Yes" votes in the referendums to be held in the European Union accession countries (Malta has already held its referendum). Our logo, "which shows two identical jigsaw-puzzle pieces completing the flag of the European Union, symbolises the reunification of Europe" Mr Watson told the Press.
Graham Watson reminded his audience that the Slovenians will be deciding whether or not they will be joining the EU on 23 March. He launched the ELDR campaign in Slovenia himself on 14 February, where he took part in the country's Liberal Democrat Congress, and his campaign continued in Slovakia on 3 March and Hungary on 4 and 5 March.
