Brussels, 21/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - Meeting on the fringes of the European Summit on Thursday evening, the ECOFIN Council managed to strike agreement on energy tax after Austria removed its final reservations. The President of the Council, Nikos Christodulakis, said he was "very pleased" with the agreement that marked a major piece of legislation and showed that in difficult periods a common desire to make progress had shone through over an issue of singular importance.
