23/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - Turkey has signed Protocol No.6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, banning the death penalty in times of peace. This signing confirms the abolition of the death penalty of August 2002 in the country where it has not been applied since 1984. The organisations Secretary General Walter Schwimmer, welcomed this signing, hoping that Turkey would rapidly ratify the protocol.
