16/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday in Wiesbaden, the Federal Office of Statistics announced that Germany had registered a public deficit for 2002 of 3.7% of its Gross Domestic Product. This figure cuts with the predictions of the government of Chancellor Schröder, which had forecast a figure of 3.75%. Berlin is currently subject to proceedings for having an "excessive deficit", initiated by the European Commission as part of the Stability Pact.
