Brussels, 16/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - US information technology giant, Microsoft, announced the opening of the code-source for all Windows systems used by governments and international organisations world-wide. This code-source, a real production secret of the group and which has until now been considered as its intellectual property allowing for certain modifications to be made to Windows and the addition of other encryption technologies. According to Microsoft, the "Government Security Program" will enable governments to study this code-source in an effort to improve software for monitoring personal data in fiscal matters or national security. After having reached an amicable agreement with the US authorities, Microsoft is still being investigated by Commission services for abuse of its dominant position on the user system market by imposing its software on to the market for servers. A decision is expected later this year.
