United Kingdom before Court for refusing to implement information exchange system on VAT and excise duties in Gibraltar

Brussels, 19/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to haul the United Kingdom before the Court as it considers that it has to apply Directive 77/799 in Gibraltar on mutual assistance in the field of VAT and excise duties. The United Kingdom claims that it need not do so as its act of accession to the EU stipulates that it need not apply tax harmonisation measures to Gibraltar.
