Additional 10 million euro for Afghanistan

Brussels, 19/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to allocate an additional 10 million euro to humanitarian aid operations in Afghanistan. These funds are intended to: - cover the winter needs of the population (food, shelter, healthcare for some 2.6 million people in Afghanistan and for 300,000 Afghans recently arrived in refugee camps in Pakistan; - rescue the victims of the drought (enhance the security of the provision of food and water); - provide healthcare to 210,000 displaced people living in camps; - finance the air transport of humanitarian personnel. The decision takes to 73 million euro in humanitarian aid Echo has allocated to Afghanistan in 2002.
