Brussels, 19/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the energy company Powergen UK (German group E.ON) to acquire assets held by TXU Europe in the United Kingdom, in the gas and electricity sectors. The Commission has studied the impact that this operation would have on electricity and gas generation, distribution and supply in England and Wales where both parties have a foothold. It concludes that the limited increment in electricity generation arising from the concentration will not significantly change the situation of supply and demand of electricity. The supply of electricity and gas is completely liberalised in Britain and E.ON/Powergen will face competition from several significant players.
