Brussels, 17/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the Council formally adopted a decision relating to the adoption of an action programme for customs in the Community ("Customs 2007"). The British delegation abstained from the vote. With a financial envelope of 133 million euro for the period 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2007, "Customs 2007" will assure the continuity of measures taken under its predecessor, the "Customs 2002" programme. It aims, notably,: - to play in favour of employment through the creation of a competitive environment for companies thanks to reduced costs for placing into conformity; - to integrate the future new Member States in a "single customs administration"; - to improve consumer protection and of the Community's financial interests by reforming transit and controls linked to combating fraud, as well as by computer networking the customs services..
