EU tries to convince ACP that negotiations over a new trade regime aims foremost to construct markets - ACP does not lose aim of free-trade from sight, regarded as ill-adapted to their case

Brussels, 30/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - With the opening of trade negotiations in Brussels last week (EUROPE of 28 September, p.10), the ACP states and the Union opened a new chapter in their co-operation to conclude, by end-2007, economic partnership agreements (EPAs) compatible with WTO rules before leading, towards 2010, to free-trade areas. The Cotonou Agreement, concluded in 2000 for twenty years, provide for these negotiations to gradually break the unilateral system of preferences...
