Commission believes initial aid from European funds for natural disasters could be distributed in November - Commissioner Barnier stresses prevention

Brussels, 18/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Fund for natural disasters ought to be operational by the "end of October or beginning of November" declared Commissioner Michel Barnier in a press statement on Wednesday about the proposal adopted that day by the Commission. The Commissioner responsible for Regional Policy "hopes that the Commission will be able to "immediately" distribute aid to the areas affected by serious flooding this summer.
