Loyola de Palacio to attend 8th international energy forum, in Osaka

Brussels, 18/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Loyola de Palacio, Vice-President in charge of transport and energy, is to attend the 8th international forum on energy to be held in Osaka, in Japan, from 21 to 23 September. The working sessions will cover a broad panorama of the world's energy situation, the means for facilitating investment in the energy sector, interaction between safety, environment and economic growth in the energy sector, and the next stages of the work to be carried out at the International Forum in order to meet international energy challenges. Ms de Palacio will insist on the need to diversify resources, and the importance of consolidating the dialogue between producers and consumers. She will also present the content of her proposal in favour of increased coordination of oil and gas stocks (see our bulletin of 5 September, p.11). Before attending the forum, the Commissioner will make an official visit to Tokyo, during which she is to meet Chikage Ogi, Japan's Transport Minister, with whom she will discuss EU-Asia cooperation and various other issues (air transport security, multilateral relations in air transport, air traffic between Japan and the EU, maritime transport, and radio-navigation by satellite).
