03/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Sixth Dialogue between the Orthodox church and EPP/DE group at European Parliament held last week in Bucharest called for the creation of a "group of political and religious experts of the textbooks and curricula" in the teaching of theology. The press statement also indicated that special attention would be paid to, "extereme interpretations by those who advocate suicide and violence on the name of religion as a means of personal salvation". Participants also called on EU and candidate country universities to "develop studies in the interpretation of theology" in order to "provide objective studies on the influence of differing religious traditions on societies". They also called on the Turkish authorities to re-open the Theological Scholl at Halki and to facilitate the restoration of Christian churches and cemeteries in Turkey. Participants also called on the Albanian authorities to re-open all Christian places of worship and condemned the destruction of churches in the North of Cyprus and Kosovo.
