Brussels, 30/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Single Market Observatory (SMO) of the Economic and Social Committee is organising on 10 September, in Brussels, with the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs, a hearing on the theme "simplifying the Single Market rules: the priorities" (see EUROPE of 27 July, p.17). With this hearing, the Committee plans to give Single Market users a chance to discuss an issue that has gained in importance following the publication of a Commission action plan on 5 June this year on "simplifying and improving the regulatory environment".
SMO President Bruno Vever will introduce the work, which will be followed by a speech by Internal Market Commissioner Fritz Bolkestein. Different panels (with evidence given by socioprofessional associations) will cover the following issues: (1) quality and efficiency of the rules; (2) impact analysis and consultation; (3) partnership between the European institutions and the Member States; and (4) partnership between the European institutions and the economic actors. Conclusions will be drawn by the Chair of the Committee's Internal Market section, Mr Sequeira.
