Brussels, 26/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has given its go-ahead to the acquisition of Seeboard Group by London Electricity Group, the British division of Electricité de France. Two British electricity companies are involved - one established in the London area and South West England (London Electricity), and the other in the South-East (Seeboard). The Commission considers that the operation will not lead to competition concerns either in the wholesale or in the retail market for electricity as, on one hand, each party has it own authorised distribution area, and, on the other, the distribution activities are strictly supervised by the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets. Regarding supply, there is now strong national competition. Finally, the operation will not have a very great impact on the related markets traditionally linked to the distribution business.
