Parliament concludes examination of the rules for taking part in 6th Framework Programme

Strasbourg, 04/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of two reports by German Christian Democrat Godelieve Quisthoudt-Rowohl, the European Parliament definitively concluded its examination of the 6th Framework Programme for Research. The last element of the puzzle must allow the Commission to prepare itself for the implementation of the programme from 1 January next, and the rules of participation must, however, still be adopted by the Council. As it is the Community section of the programme over which the EP has codecision, the changes made by the Parliament respect the agreement concluded after negotiations with the Council. On the Euratom part, the Parliament, which is only consulted, maintained its request aimed at taking the rate of Community financing to 24% (instead of 17.5% as in the Commission's proposal) for projects relating to merger.
