Brussels, 04/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, Danish Justice Minister, Lene Espersen, presented to the Danish press a full programme for the Danish Presence with twelve new initiatives added to those already on the table. Denmark wants to "progress and if possible conclude" the difficult cases such as the framework decisions on drug trafficking and sexual exploitation of children or draft projects on environmental damage, cyber-crime and the fight against racism. The Danish Minister insisted on the new initiatives. At the top of the list she put the strengthened co-operation with the USA, which is in fact the continuation of common action after the attacks of 11 September. She outlined that the Presidency would undertake all efforts to conclude an agreement on the exchange of personal data between Europol and the US authorities and obtain an extradition agreement. The Presidency is also going to propose a protocol for modifying Europol, which will focus on co-operation between national police forces and "democratic control". The other ten initiatives include operational importance (list of terrorist profiles, strengthened use of joint liaison officers, improved information exchanges between national data bases on criminal investigations), others are just recommendations (treatment of drug users in prison), improvement of protection for lorry drivers, use of technology against criminals. The Presidency will also propose a framework decision on the recognition of decisions in the freezing of criminals' assets, as well as a decision on corruption in the private sector. On Tuesday, the Minister will be before the Civil Liberties Committee of the European Parliament, together with the Minister of the Interior, Bertel Haarder.
