Public insurance coverage of airlines against risks of "war and terrorism" is extended until end June, pending creation of a mutualisation fund and new Commission proposals

Brussels, 27/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission is to confirm that Member States may continue to provide insurance coverage for their airline companies against risks of war and terrorism until the end of June. This is the third time that the Commission extends the scheme set in place after the attacks on 11 September, authorising Member States to take on the cost of insurance coverage against such risks, instead of private insurers.
