02/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - Alain Lamassoure, European Parliament rapporteur on power sharing in the EU, put forward "explosive" proposals for a country like Germany, said German Social Democrat Martin Schulz, Vice-President of the Socialist Group, speaking to journalists (see EUROPE of 19 April, p.6, on the subject of adopting the Lamassoure report in committee). Mr Schulz expressed surprise that a former French minister (Ed.: Mr Lamassoure was Minister of the Budget and European Affairs) should propose to give some regions their own right to file a complaint. In Germany, the Länder are already extremely strong, and, if this proposal is taken on board they will be even more so, notes Mr Schulz. He specified, however, that, during the vote in committee, the suggestion was not adopted and that there will be a separate report from Parliament on "legislative" regions.
