18/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council has proceeded, without debate, with the formal adoption of its common position aimed at amending Directive 98/70/EC on the quality of petrol and diesel fuels, to reduce to the minimum the authorised content in sulphur (less than 10 mg/kg instead of the current 50 mg/kg). The common position was able to be adopted once the political agreement reached on 12 December 2001 was consolidated. Parliament has to vote on second reading.
