Brussels, 18/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Permanent Representatives of the Fifteen should be meeting on 29 April to decide on the extension of the European list of terrorist organisations adopted on 27 December 2001. On Tuesday, Josep Pique announced such a special meeting (see EUROPE of 17 April, p.10). Some forty names of people and organisations have been put forward by member and third countries to be defined as "terrorists" by the EU, a diplomat explains. It will especially be a question of including the Workers Party of Kurdistan (PKK) on this black list. Only Belgium, which is in the process of reviewing its position, Germany and the Netherlands, are for now against inclusion of the PKK on the list, say several European diplomats. Turkish sources consider that the change of name from PKK to Kadek and is "ambiguous" announcement of renouncing the armed struggle are directly linked to the fact that the EU is now considering qualifying the organisation as terrorist.
