Brussels, 18/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has adopted a 963.9 million euro programme for the development of the information society in Spanish Objective 1 regions between now and 2006: it will provide aid of 446.6 million, and Spain 522.7 million. The priorities are: allowing citizens' access to the information society (access to new digital services, presence of the internet in schools), encourage the new economy (the information society and electronic trade in companies, support for technological development), introduce the information society in public administrations (including through the development of Internet sites of the National Distance Learning University), develop information society industries and technologies, promote the development of digital contents and tools (development of new systems, encouraging the creation of Spanish language contents, the development of language technologies).
