THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/convention

13/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament delegation at the Convention on the Future of Europe, that met up on Tuesday morning in Strasbourg, discussed the possibility of opening up the Presidium to representatives from candidate countries (see EUROPE 9 March page 5). MEPs largely agree with delegation President, Inigo Mendez de Vigo, emphasising that it wasn't Parliament that created the problem. So far they have decided to allow observers from these countries to the Presidium. During Pat Cox's recent visit to Poland, all the different speakers, from the President of the Republic to the Prime Minister and the President of the Parliament, highlighted the significance they attributed to such a presence within the Presidium.
