ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) privatisation

- Greece: The Greek government has presented a new plan for the rescue of the national airline company OA - Olympic AIRWAYS after having recognised the unsuccessful privatisation of the carrier three days earlier with the withdrawal of the last bidder, the Greek-Australian consortium, IASC - INTEGRATED AIRLINE SOLUTIONS. The rescue plan is aimed to allow the company to continue to fly but, above all, to make it more attractive for any future attempts at privatisation since the main aim of the Greek State remains to disinvest in the company. - Portugal: The national airline TAP AIR PORTUGAL (operating profits EUR 19.9 million against a deficit of EUR 61.7 million) is willing to open up to 39% of its capital to a group of Portuguese companies. This partial privatisation should be carried out during the first half of the year.
